How do I add the Lock Screen widget?
- Wake your iPhone and unlock it with Face ID or Touch ID, but stay on the Lock Screen.
- Touch and hold the Lock Screen until Customize appears, then tap it and choose Lock Screen.
- Tap the widget area below the clock.
- Find Hourverse in the list, then tap or drag the size you want.
- Tap outside the widget list, then tap Done.
The rectangular widget shows the most text. Hourverse can also replay this walkthrough for you from its Settings screen.
How do I add the Home Screen widget?
- Touch and hold an empty spot on your Home Screen until the apps jiggle.
- Tap Edit in the top corner, then Add Widget. On older versions of iOS, tap the + button.
- Search for Hourverse, swipe to pick a size, and tap Add Widget.
- Drag it where you like and tap Done.
My widget isn't updating. What can I do?
The verse is set to change at the top of each hour, but iOS decides exactly when widgets refresh, so a change can occasionally arrive a little late. If it seems stuck:
- Open Hourverse once. This lets iOS refresh its widgets.
- Make sure you have the latest version of Hourverse from the App Store.
- Low Power Mode can delay widget updates. Turning it off can help.
- Remove the widget and add it again.
- Restart your iPhone.

Which Bible translation does Hourverse use?
The Berean Standard Bible (BSB), a modern English translation that has been dedicated to the public domain. Hourverse shows the text exactly as published. If a verse is too long for a small widget, it's shortened with “…” and the full verse is in the app.
Is any of the text written by AI or by people other than the Bible's authors?
No. Hourverse shows only Scripture: exact BSB text, with no quotes from people, no devotional commentary, and nothing generated by AI.
Do I need an account?
No. Hourverse has no accounts, logins, or sign-ups.
Does it cost anything?
Hourverse is free to download, and the hourly verse widget is free. We may add an optional subscription called Hourverse Plus later. If we do, the app will show the price and terms before you buy, and Apple handles all payments.
How do I cancel a subscription?
Subscriptions are billed and managed by Apple, so you cancel them in your iPhone's settings rather than in the app:
- Open the Settings app and tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Tap Hourverse, then Cancel Subscription.
Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid being charged for the next period. Apple's guide: Cancel a subscription from Apple. For refunds, go to reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple decides refunds; we can't issue them.
